Important Exchange Rate Change:

The exchange rate will be changing on September 18, 2012. Please make sure you complete all transactions by September 17, 2012 if you wish to complete the payment with the exchange rate of 85.00 JPY. If you process your transaction after this date, you will be responsible for paying the visa fee with the new exchange rate.

Attention: Information about the New Visa Fees
Effective April 13, 2012, the Department of State adjusted visa processing fees. Although most categories of nonimmigrant visa processing fees increased, the fee for E visas (treaty-traders and treaty-investors) and K visas (for fiance(e)s of U.S. citizens) decreased.

Visa fees are valid for scheduling an appointment for one year from the date of payment.

For all visa categories where the fees increased, payments made prior to April 13, 2012 are valid for 90 days. This means that applicants who paid the fee prior to April 13, 2012 must schedule their visa interview appointment no later than July 12, 2012. If not, they will have to pay the difference between the old and the new rate to the Consular cashier on the date of the interview.

For all visa categories where the fees are decreasing, no refunds for the difference between the old and new rates will be available for applicants paying prior to the April 13, 2012 decrease.

Important Notice! After paying a nonimmigrant visa application fee, you must wait to schedule your appointment.

  • You must write down your receipt number and use a new receipt number for each payment.
The receipt number for this transaction is:
  • Please ensure that you write this receipt number down as it can not be replaced.
  • You can schedule your interview four hours after paying your visa application fee on weekdays.

Overview

In most cases, each visa applicant, including children, is required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee, whether a visa is issued or not. The visa application fee is determined by the type of visa for which you wish to apply.

Remember, the MRV fee is non-refundable. Please confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa. You may not need to apply for a new U.S. visa if you already hold a valid U.S. visa or are a national of a Visa Waiver Program participating country.

Certain individuals may not need a visa, or may be exempt from the fee, for example:

  • If you are applying for an A or G visa for official travel, you do not need to pay the MRV fee
  • If you are applying for a J visa to participate in a U.S. Government-sponsored program, you do not need to pay the MRV fee
  • If you are a citizen of Canada or Bermuda (but not applying for an A, E, G, K or V visa category), you may not need a visa

If you do need to pay the fee, please follow the instructions below for paying your visa application fee. For more information about fee exemptions, please visit this page.

Remember: Applicants are limited to the number of times they can reschedule their appointments. Please plan accordingly so that you are not required to pay another visa application fee. Visa application fees are nonrefundable.
