Overview

You are not allowed to enter U.S. Embassy Riga while carrying any of the following items:

  • Battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital voice recorders, still and/or video cameras, tablets, laptops, or portable music players
  • Large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be hand-carried will be permitted
  • Travel bags such as backpacks, suitcases, and duffel bags
  • Food and liquids of any kind
  • Sealed envelopes or packages (other than sealed police or medical records)
  • Matches and/or lighters
  • Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
  • Weapons, firearms, or explosive materials of any kind

This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.

There is no facility at the U.S. Embassy Riga to store prohibited items other than personal mobile phones. You must make arrangements to store these items before entering.

Due to security considerations, only visa applicants or pre-approved visitors with scheduled interviews will be admitted.

Document submission and  case review prior to the actual interview can take about 45 minutes. Since electronic devices are not allowed in the waiting room, you might want to bring some reading material with you.
