Apply for a Visa

Overview

Before applying, please confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa.

If you do need to apply for a nonimmigrant visa, please follow the steps below.

How to Apply for a Nonimmigrant Visa

Step 1 Pay the visa application fee.

Step 2 Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form.

Note: If you pay your visa application fee in cash at GTBank, then you can schedule your interview within four hours of payment. If you pay online at GTBank then you can schedule as soon as 3:00pm on the first banking day following the date of payment.

Step 3 Schedule your appointment. You will need three pieces of information in order to schedule your interview appointment:

    • Your passport number
    • Your fee payment receipt purchase date (due to banking regulations, this date may be later than the date you actually paid your fee - the tables on this page can help you determine your receipt purchase date)
    • The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page

Step 4 Visit the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos on the date and time of your visa interview. You will need to bring a printed copy of your appointment letter, your DS-160 confirmation page, a recent color photograph, your current and all previous passports, and the original GTBank visa fee payment receipt. Applications without all of these items will not be accepted.

Step 5 The visa officer will inform you at the end of your interview if you qualify for a U.S. nonimmigrant visa. If you are issued a visa, your passport and visa are returned to you at the document pick-up location you selected. If you are refused a visa, the visa officer will return your passport at the end of the interview.
