All visitors are subject to an airport-type screening. When planning your visit, bring only what is needed for your business. You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy while carrying any of the following items:

  • Electronic devices such as laptops, IPods, IPads, internet-capable watches, USB sticks, cameras, video cameras, Transaction Authentication Number (TAN) generators or code keys etc
  • Large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted
  • Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders - you can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers
  • Food and liquid items
  • Sealed envelopes or packages
  • Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
  • Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
  • Weapons or explosive materials of any kind

This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.

There is a limited storage space for small items such as electronic equipment, cellular telephones or tablets at the embassy entrance. Personal laptops and larger electrical/electronic devices are prohibited. You will not be permitted entry if you are in possession of a laptop or larger electrical/electronic device. We do not have lockers or storage facilities for bigger luggage at the Embassy. Larger storage lockers can be found at the mail bus/train station in Stockholm (Centralstationen), or at the airport.

Due to security considerations, there is no information window for walk-in visitors at the U.S. Embassy. Only visa applicants with scheduled interviews will be admitted.
