Attention: The size limit for bags is: 35 cm (height) x 20 cm (width) x 40 cm (length). Unfortunately, if your bag is bigger than the size limit, you will not be allowed to bring it into the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Also, please do not bring laptop computers, iPads, tablets, and other large electronic devices to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You may not enter the building with these items. You may not leave these items at the security checkpoint.

Overview

Do not bring laptop computers, iPads, tablets, and other large electronic devices to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.  You may not enter the building with these devices.  You may not leave these devices at the security checkpoint.

You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy or Consulate while carrying any of the following battery-operated or electronic devices such as:

  • Mobile phones
  • Digital watches
  • Tablets 
  • Compact cameras
  • Audio recorders
  • Portable music players

Please note that these small electronic devices will be kept at the security checkpoint when you enter the U.S. Consulate building and returned to you when your business is completed.

Additional Prohibited Items

  • The size limit for bags is: 35 cm (height) x 20 cm (width) x 40 cm (length). Unfortunately, if your bag is bigger than the size limit, you will not be allowed to bring it into the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
  • Large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted
  • Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders - you can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers
  • Food and liquid items
  • Sealed envelopes or packages
  • Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
  • Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
  • Weapons or explosive materials of any kind
  • Laptop computers, iPads, tablets, and other large electronic devices

This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.  There is no facility at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to store prohibited items. You must make arrangements to store these items before entering.

Due to security considerations, there is no information window for walk-in visitors at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Only applicants with scheduled appointments will be admitted.

Access to the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi

Applicants are required to bring national ID (or equivalent photo-ID) for security screening when attend their interviews.
