Information Regarding Health Protocols at U.S. Embassy Guatemala

To protect the health of all embassy staff and visitors, it is asked that if you feel sick, you should send an email the day prior to your interview to the following address Support-guatemala@ustraveldocs.com with the subject “Rescheduling appointment due to sickness.” You may also contact the Embassy by telephone at 2376-1978 to reschedule your appointment for health reasons. Your new appointment will be scheduled soon, thus it is asked that you monitor your email for messages from the Embassy.

The United States Embassy is now accepting visa renewal applications through Cargo Expreso under the Interview Waiver mechanism for Guatemalan citizens or residents. Individuals applying for renewal of their B1/B2 (tourism or business visitor) visa must be at least 18 years old; B1/B2 applicants aged 80 years or more may use the Interview Waiver mechanism even if they have never applied before.  As a new feature of the Interview Waiver mechanism, applicants of any age can use the program to apply to renew their F-1 (student) or C1/D (crew) visas. Applicants should expect a longer-than-normal wait time for this service (at least four weeks). 
 
Notice: After your interview, please follow the specific instructions provided by the consular section. If you need your passport to travel to another country before the approximate time established to receive your passport with the visa, write an email to GuatemalaNIV@state.gov  the passport will be returned by Cargo Expreso to the agency selected in your profile , without exception, in the same way you must return the passport to the consular section to continue with the visa process. Please do not come to the Embassy directly, due to security reasons, we can’t give back passports to applicants this way

Overview

Please confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa. You may not need to apply for a new U.S. visa if you already hold a valid U.S. visa or are a national of a Visa Waiver Program participating country.

If you do need to apply for a nonimmigrant visa, please follow the steps below.

How to Apply

Step 1
For Nonimmigrant Visa applicants:

Determine your visa type by reading Common Nonimmigrant Visas. Each visa type explains the qualifications and application items. Choose the visa type that applies to your situation.

Be sure to also review the Visa Waiver Program. If your country participates in the Visa Waiver Program, you do not need to apply for a visa if you are traveling for business or pleasure and will only be staying in the United States for 90 days or less.

Step 2
Once you have determined the correct visa type, you must pay the visa fee. The visa fee page lists the visa types and correlating visa fee in US dollars and native currency.

To pay your visa fee, read the Bank and Payment Options page. This page explains how to make your visa fee payment. You must keep your receipt number to book your visa appointment.

Step 3
The next step is to complete the DS-160 form. Be sure to read the Guidelines for Completing the DS-160 Form carefully. All information must be correct and accurate. Once the form is submitted, you cannot make any changes. If you need assistance, please consult an immigration lawyer or translator. The call center cannot help you complete your DS-160. You will need your DS-160 number to book your appointment.

Step 4
You are almost ready to schedule your visa appointment!

Now you will need to create a profile in our system. Remember that the data on your profile must be accurate and truthful, that is, it must contain the correct information, just as it is in the passport of the applicant requesting the visa, regardless of whether it is a minor or not. Once the data has been entered into the profile and associated with a payment receipt, it is not possible to make changes to the profiles. If the data on the profile does not match with your passport information, you will have to make a new payment.Please remember, the MRV fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Complete all fields and create a password. Once you are in the system, you will see your dashboard.
On the left-hand side, click on Schedule Appointment.

This will start the process for scheduling your appointment. For each applicant being scheduled you will need:

  • The applicant's passport number
  • The receipt number from Banrural. (Click here if you need help finding this number.)
  • The ten (10) digit barcode number from the applicant's DS-160 confirmation page

 

As you go through the process you will be able to select your visa type, enter personal data, add dependents, select your document delivery location, confirm visa payment and finally, schedule your appointment.

Step 5
Visit the U.S. Embassy on the date and time of your visa interview. Be sure to check the Schedule My Appointment page for the necessary documentation needed for your appointment.

Step 6
If your visa is approved, the visa will be sent to your designated location selected when you scheduled your appointment.
