Overview

  • DO NOT bring children 13 years of age or below to the embassy for a visa interviews. Children should also not accompanying their parents for the parents’ visa interview. Parents must bring their children’s visa application documents to the embassy during the parent’s interview. Please note that if parents bring their children to the embassy, the children will not be admitted to the interview room. They will wait in the outdoor waiting area with one of the parents while the other does his/her interview. Once again DO NOT bring children 13 years and under to the embassy for a visa interview.
  • They do need a full application and payment

Parents may apply on behalf of their children who are under 14, but they must submit their children’s first or renewal application at the time of the parent’s visa interview. Children’s information should be added as “Dependent” on the parent’s profile when scheduling an appointment. For visa application procedures, please follow the instruction at Apply for a Visa.

If one of the parents already obtained a visa, they may send their children’s applications by mail. Parents may drop off application packets at the SLS location. Follow the steps below to submit the packet on behalf of your child.

Note: In some circumstances, the parents of a minor applicant may be requested for an in-person interview at a later date.

How To Apply

Step 1

Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form.

Step 2

Log-in and pay the visa application fee.

Step 3

Schedule an appointment. You must answer the interview waiver questions online. If you are eligible to apply for a visa without an interview,you will schedule an interview waiver appointment to drop off your child documents at SLS. Please make sure to print out the “the interview waiver confirmation letter” which you will include with your visa application without this letter, your child’s passport will be returned to you without being processed.

You will need three pieces of information in order to register online:

  • Your passport number
  • The receipt number from your CIB Bank receipt. (Click here if you need help finding this number)
  • The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page starting with letters AA.
Step 4

Deliver the following documents to the SLS Location:

  • Interview Waiver confirmation letter
  • Child's own passport
  • If the child has a valid US visa in an old or expired passport, please submit the passport with the valid US visa
  • 5x5cm photo of child with eyes open (if uploaded into DS-160, photos must be a .jpg between 600x600 and 1200x1200 pixels, less than 240kb, and cannot be digitally altered)
  • A completed DS-160 form
  • Visa Fee Receipt from Burgan Bank
  • A copy of the valid visa for one of the parents. If one parent will not travel, provide a visa copy for the traveling parent and a passport copy from the non-traveling parent with a letter stating no objection to the child's travel.
  • For children of students (F2): a copy of the child's I-20
  • A copy of the valid visa for one of the parents must be included with the application. If both parents have visas, we recommend that copies of both visas be included in the application. Parents should be clear on the child’s application whether one or both parents plan to travel with the child. In cases where the parent's surname is different from the child's, a copy of the birth certificate or adoption decree should be included.
Step 5

SLS delivers your documents to the U.S. Embassy without any additional cost.

Step 6

When the U.S. Embassy is ready they will hand over your documents to SLS. SLS returns your documents and your passport to you at your chosen document pick-up location. Processing of your application may take up to 6 weeks. Please note that we reserve the right to request a personal interview.

More Information

Parents of applicants under 14 years old who are holders of passports from countries other than Egypt (i.e. who are passport holders of another country) are required to appear for an interview on behalf of the child and should bring supporting documents. These appointments should be scheduled in the name of the child on the regular visa appointment website. They are not eligible to drop off the application at SLS.
