On this page:Attention: Information about New Visa Fees
Effective April 13, 2012, the Department of State adjusted visa processing fees. Although most categories of nonimmigrant visa processing fees increased, the fee for E visas (treaty-traders and treaty-investors) and K visas (for fiancé(e)s of U.S. citizens) decreased.
Visa fees are valid for scheduling an appointment for one year from the date of payment.
For all visa categories where the fees increased, payments made prior to April 13, 2012 are valid for 90 days. This means that applicants who paid the fee prior to April 13, 2012 must schedule their visa interview appointment no later than July 12, 2012. If not, they will have to pay the difference between the old and the new rate to the Consular cashier on the date of the interview.
For all visa categories where the fees are decreasing, no refunds for the difference between the old and new rates will be available for applicants paying prior to the April 13, 2012 decrease.
Overview
In most cases, each visa applicant, including children, is required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable Machine Readable Visa (MRV) application fee, whether a visa is issued or not. The visa application fee is determined by the type of visa for which you wish to apply.
Remember, the MRV fee is non-refundable. Please confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa. You may not need to apply for a new U.S. visa if you already hold a valid U.S. visa or are a national of a Visa Waiver Program participating country.
Certain individuals may not need a visa, or may be exempt from the fee, for example:
- If you are applying for an A or G visa for official travel, you do not need to pay the MRV fee
- If you are applying for a J visa to participate in a U.S. Government-sponsored program, you do not need to pay the MRV fee
- If you are a citizen of Canada or Bermuda (but not applying for an A, E, G, K or V visa category), you may not need a visa
If you do need to apply for a visa, please follow the instructions below for paying your visa application fee. For more information about fee exemptions, please visit this page.
Remember: Applicants are limited to the number of times they can reschedule their appointments. Please plan accordingly so that you are not required to make another visa application fee. Visa application fees are nonrefundable.

Cash at Bank
Any nonimmigrant visa applicant can pay their visa application fee in cash at any Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) branch. At the bank, you must write your fee payment amount and your telephone number in the U. S. visa fee collection slip available at the bank. After receiving your payment, the bank will give you a receipt.
Online PaymentIf you have an account with either Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) or BancNet you may choose to pay your visa application fee online using their online bill pay services. Click on either of the links below if you are a BPI or BancNet customer and wish to make an online payment.
If you are paying for more than one applicant, please DO NOT make a lump sum payment for all the applicants. A UID/receipt number is required for each visa application fee payment for EACH applicant for scheduling an appointment. After you have paid the visa application fee, please keep the fee receipt for your records.
Receipt Format
Note: If you have a Bank of Philippine Islands receipt, your fee receipt number should be your passport number. If something other than your passport number appears in the circled area on the grapic, use that information as your receipt number. This receipt number verifies your payment and allows you to schedule your visa interview.
