If you are renewing a B1/B2, F, M, or J visa, you may qualify for an Interview Waiver/Drop-Off service (without a visa interview) and you may submit your visa applications to the Consular section of the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh on any Wednesday, between 13:00-15:00 hrs., provided you meet all of the qualifications listed below.

Note: Extended from December 31, 2022 until further notice, applicants applying to renew a nonimmigrant visa (B1/B2, F, M or academic J) previously issued in the same classification within 48 months of that visa’s expiration date may qualify for the Interview Waiver/Drop-Off service.


If you are applying for an F, M, or "academic" J visa and are either (a) a passport holder from a Visa Waiver country, or (b) a passport holder from a non-Visa Waiver country with a previous U.S. visa, please read the information available on Change of Qualifications for F, M and J Visas available on this page.


  • You are renewing a B1/B2, F, M or J visa that is currently valid or has expired within the last 48 months (four years).
  • You have never been denied entry to the United States.
  • You have never been refused a U.S. visa, or if you was refused a U.S. visa before, you was subsequently issued that same visa type.
  • You must be physically present in Cambodia.
  • Your name, date of birth and nationality on your passport match your previous visa. You are applying for the same type of visa as your currently valid or prior visa. 

-       For F and M renewals, applicants must either:

        (a)   continue participation in the same program even at a different institution; or

        (b)   attending the same institution even in a different program.

-       For J renewals, the SEVIS number matches the prior DS-2019.

How to apply:

Step 1:

Complete visa application form DS-160. Please make sure you are using the most current DS-160 confirmation barcode. 

Step 2:

Pay the visa application fee

Step 3:

Log into your profile by using the same username and password, as well as by using the following information to answer the prompted questions, and then print out the Interview Waiver Confirmation Page. 

  • Your passport number
  • The receipt number from your visa application fee receipt. (Click here if you need help finding this number.)
  • The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page 

Applicants are required to print out and complete the checklist on the Interview Waiver Confirmation Page, which must be submitted when applying for a visa via Drop-Off. A failure to provide the Interview Waiver Confirmation Page may cause delays to the administration of your application. 

Required documents to submit to the Consular section: 

  • A valid passport for travel to the United States with validity remaining at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States.
  • Your most recent U.S. visa
  • A print out of DS-160 confirmation page with a barcode.
  • One NEW photo (see requirements here).
  • Visa application fee receipt from the Cathay United Bank or VFS Global.
  • A print out of the Interview Waiver Confirmation Page. 

For students, vocational and exchange visitors only:

  • Original form I-20 or original form DS-2019.
  • The student’s official transcripts. 

Important Notice:

  • Read the Guidelines for Completing the Form DS-160. All information must be complete and accurate.  Your visa application may be denied if you do not properly complete your application.
  • The Drop-Off service does not guarantee visa issuance.
  • In some cases, applicants who renew their U.S. visa via Interview Waiver/ Drop-Off service may still be required to appear for a visa interview at the Consular section. Examples of this include incomplete, inaccurate applications or old photo, etc. The Consular section will contact you if additional documents or a personal interview is required.
  • The visa renewals via Interview Waiver/Drop-Off service take approximately 7 business days. If your travel is urgent, please schedule the appointment online for an in-person interview.
